Welcome to 2014! I took much-needed vacation time the last two weeks of December. Filled my time with:
Now vacation is over. What’s on my poker agenda for 2014? It depends.
The first round of January’s Beast competition is well on its way, but I’ve yet to play a hand. I planned on playing this round, but a week ago, I realized my kids don’t go back to school until the 6th. I’d rather not grind hard until they’re back in their routine. So, I’ve decided to go with a different plan this round. I’m going to play a marginal amount of poker using table selection and focus. I’m hoping to get in the top 20 and see how that plan works. Sample size will be an issue, of course.
I know the Beast will be changing soon, so it’s difficult to say what I’ll do with the promotion after it does. They’ll be altering the payout structure, and I’ve even heard they may change it to a week competition. Rumor is those changes may take place as early as February 1. At that point, I’ll have to evaluate the details and see what makes sense for me.
It’s been a few months since I’ve had time to commit to Poker’s Postflop Course Part 2. The outline is coming along, and I’m about 70 pages into the material. The material is dense, and writing/researching is time-consuming. However, I’m dying to get back into it. My goal is to finish the book by the end of 2014. You can’t rush this stuff, though. I have difficulty finding balance in life in general. So, I have to make sure all my time doesn’t go to this book. Book sales aren’t a large portion of my income. I write mostly because I enjoy the analysis and teaching.
I have much to improve in my poker game. Playing 3K+ hands an hour obviously doesn’t allow me to play my sharpest. I’m hoping to make time this year playing a more reasonable pace that allows me to think as clearly as possible and see what happens. I’ll keep you all posted on my results as I go along.
I still plan to make videos for DragTheBar.com. I’m also considering making video content for my website. Still pondering this idea.
I’m hopelessly attracted to close-up card magic. I’ve been working with a deck of cards as far back as I can remember. Around the age of 20, I started getting serious with the hobby. However, I’ve never used my skills for anything except performing a trick or two for friends or family. My oldest son has shown some interest in card magic, so I got him a book on it for Christmas. Now, I’m sucked back into it as well. I’ve decided I’ll post some magic stuff on QTipPoker media sites instead of separating the material elsewhere. I hope followers don’t find the additional material an annoyance.
So, I have a ton of work cut out for me in 2014. Now it’s time to get to work
